Relaxing Easter

Easter, time to relax and enjoy the time off after the long days of work here in Yulara. I had a close friend flying over from Darwin. She never saw the red centre before, so time to show the freedom here in the red centre.

We started with a night in a five star hotel, Sails in the desert, everything with it, balcony, spa, mini bar and two beds bigger I ever saw. I thought I deserved a bit more luxe then getting stuck in a house with always people around, and experience different ways of live. Guys constant singing, walking around in undies, by the way not an enjoyable view, Filipinos cooking Asian food, its time they send some female tradesman, maybe I’ll appreciate it more walking in undies.

So after a luxury night we drove for a real night out bush. We went to my favourite camping spot, boggy hole. After a few hours drive we were looking for the turn off for running waters. Looking for that small one way track, I was forced to show my visitor different tracks leading to cattle, an encounter with the roof of Mrs Dee, after an unexpected depth in the sand, tracks that narrows into branches and trees. I even involuntary showed her the old track to the Promised Land that was washed away by floods and time.
After this intermezzo I found the promised track. Damned, the destructive force of human civilisation has already entered the beautiful red centre, the charming one way track is changed into a meaningless cool sand highway. But I was happy to see that after a few km the track changed again into his natural form with unexpected encounters and turns, deep sand were you have to work you way trough, hills were different attempts are necessary to get over, Trees thrown over the track, this was the red centre I was talking about. It was also the perfect time to go, not to hot, and with the rain from the last months, the track was filled with waterholes what used to be dry sand.
We spend two nights under the stars, had different attempts to swim in the ice cold water. One of three seconds and one of 13 minutes and 34 seconds, were I’m really proud off.

Time to go back, after a drive off 6 hours with no obliged new things to see, we arrived at casa Yulara. The last days of Easter weekend, we walked around the rock, its amazing to see how the aboriginal sacred areas rise out of the ground. After a few years the rock will be sacred too and disappear after a fence. We played some tennis, yes, for my older friends, I picked up a racket again after two years, I played a few times in Alice, but my old winning instinct took over, so I didn’t really enjoy it then. But this time it was different. I was even able to teach a few things.

Even Jeff, the goanna, Jule, the crested pigeon, Cesar, the horny devil and Joe, the crocodile honoured us with there presence to wish us a good Easter.
It was really a good Easter break. Its amazing how easy you switch over to holiday mode, but how hard it is to switch back to work mode.
Wonder why?
