Croc country

First i wanna wish everybody who gets on this blog by coincidence, luck, boredom, mistake, obligation and voluntary a bloody good 2009.

Darwin, the top end, a good way to start a new year in the land of oz. Amazing the differences that you are capable to feel in one nation. Going from four seasons in a day, 3 days of rain in a year and places where the humidity is 99%.

The tropical side of Australia is magnificent, everything is full of life. Colors i never saw, animals i never saw, constantly the feeling you are standing under the shower, not be able to go for a swim in the beautiful ocean, have an adventurous walk in nature trying to avoid all the spiders hanging between the trees, seeing the billabongs while chased by a crocodile, really the perfect place to start a new exciting year.

The wet season, they called it. It rains everyday, and i mean rain. Walking from your door to your car is already enough to feel like you just had a swim. Lucky enough , the few days i was in Darwin, there were a few showers, but mostly the day was pretty dry, except the humidity. I had the chance to visit, together with a good friend, a natural park and some local attractions.

Litchfield park is invaded by termites, who are capable to build exceptional architectural sand formations. Some even taller than six metres. Great waterfalls and streams, and yes, even a nice swim in the warm water is a possibility. No crocs ,only the knowledge of a few billion termites around you, not counting the spiders , snakes and the mozzies. You never felt alone.

Everything is quit relax in the top end, no stress, just enjoying the day . The heat and humidity asks everyone to take it easy, even the animals don`t bother to do something. Just sitting and having a cool beer is enough to sweat like a pig .
The top end is beautiful, life feels like it should feel. Fragile , a stupid decision can cost you a lot, going from dehydrated, bites everywhere and even ending in the stomach of the master of the top end. Everything seems to fight for a place in their environment. Green ants that comes by hundred if you dare to walk bare foots in their territory, and bite you till you decide to take a run for it. After a few days , even a branch on the road start to look like an animal in the distance.

'The master of the top end , the croc, is spectacular to see. The oldest survivor in a world invaded by humans. Seeing those creatures on a cruise in a normal river accessible to everyone shows the value of real wildlife in our environment. Being able to feel alive ! They are even capable to jump a few metres above the water to catch their prey and disappear again under the water.

Lets hope that one day, the human destroyer respect every kind of life, and that its a necessity to learn to live with wildlife instead of conquering it.

Life without wildlife is no life !
